Highland Hearts by Eva Maria Hamilton
The first book on this list is probably the most romantic in my opinion. Set in the Scottish highlands, it follows a man named Logan McAllister who’s just returned to Scotland after several years of being an indentured servant in America to marry the woman of his dreams. He made a promise to Sheena Montgomery’s father that he would go to America and make something out of himself before he proposed to Sheena. But everything changes when he discovers Sheena’s father has died and so has their agreement . . . and that she’s engaged to another man. Can Logan remind Sheena of the love they once shared or will he lose her forever? You’ll just have to read it and find out.
A Year in Europe by Rachel Hawthorne
This next book is actually three books in one, but since each story connects to the other, I’m going to include it as one book. The book follows three best friends as they spend their junior year of high school in three different European countries – Robin’s in London, Dana’s in Paris, and Carrie’s in Italy. While studying abroad each girl meets a guy who captivates them and gives them a year full of romance and adventure. Each story is really really good but Dana’s story was my personal favorite because it was set in my favorite city – Paris.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
The first book in this series is a Valentine’s Day staple and for good reason. It follows sixteen year old Lara Jean Covey who writes love letters to her secret crushes and keeps them tucked away in an old hatbox her mom gave her. She pours out her heart in these letters and even addresses and stamps them, but she never intends for anyone to see them – until her little sister, Kitty, mails them to the boys they were written for. In a matter of minutes, Lara Jean’s world is turned upside down and nothing will ever be the same. If you like mushy-gushy rom-coms with totally relatable characters then you will love this book and the entire series. P.S. To see my review of the full series check it out here.
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
This next book is a little more mature than the others on this list but it’s totally worth reading. To see all of my thoughts on this book check out my review here. Based on the Biblical book Hosea, this story follows a woman named Angel as she loses her mother and is forced into a life of prostitution and abuse. Over time Angel’s heart begins to harden and she refuses to let anyone close until she meets Michael Hosea, a Christian farmer who wants to marry her and change her life. But can Angel trust Michael? Is he like every other man she’s ever met? Or is he just what she’s been waiting for? This is a beautiful story about redemption and learning to love not only others but yourself. I highly, highly recommend it.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
This book is another book that’s set in Paris (see a theme yet?) and it follows seventeen year old Anna who’s shipped off to a boarding school for her senior year. Anna doesn’t really want to be in France – her whole life is back in Atlanta – but then she meets Etienne St. Clair – the perfect boy. But he’s taken and so might Anna be if her crush back home ever makes a move. This rom-com is perfect to snuggle up on the couch with and give you all the Parisian feels.
Royally Crushed by Niki Burnham
It wouldn’t be a romantic book recommendation list without a good royalty trope. This book is also three books in one and it follows an American girl named Valerie who’s forced to move to the tiny country of Schwerinborg after her parents split up. Fairly certain that her life is over, things start to look up for her when she meets Georg, prince of Schwerinborg. But with the press watching their every move, can Valerie and Georg make their relationship work or will they have to end things before they even start? This book series is exactly what you think it is – total fluff but totally entertaining. I loved every second of reading it and I think you will too.
Just One by Gayle Forman
Here’s another book that’s three in one, but trust me you’ll be glad you have all three books because this story will capture your imagination until the very last page. The story follows American good girl Lulu as she tours Europe with her senior class. When she meets a Dutch guy named Willem, she decides to spend the day with him in Paris on a whim. As the two of them explore the city, they get closer and realize that maybe their attraction can turn into something more. But when Willem disappears, Lulu spends the next year trying to find him. With the help of her friends, she’s able to track him down but will she have the courage to see him again – even if it’s just for one day? This story will surprise you at how deep it really is – it’s so much more than just a love story – it’s a story of self-discovery, friendship, and making a connection with someone.
What romantic books are you reading this V-Day? I’m always up for a good book recommendation. Let me know in the comments.
