Adventures Await in Albuquerque, New Mexico: What to Do & Where to Eat

At the heart of the state of New Mexico sits a vibrant city called Albuquerque where you can immerse yourself in the gorgeous colors and fine cuisine of New Mexican culture. If you’ve been looking for a destination to explore that’s unique and completely unforgettable, I highly recommend Albuquerque.

I recently got the opportunity to check out Albuquerque’s Old Town and I wanted to share some of its beauty with you. Old Town consists of more than 150 art galleries, shops, museums, and restaurants as well as a quintessential Latin plaza and a historic church called San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church

It’s a very quiet and lowkey area that’s perfect if you’re looking for a place to just stroll around and grab a bite to eat. You can do some shopping at stores like Oaxacan Zapotec House or Lillie’s Handmade Soaps or just grab a cup of coffee at the eclectic Blackbird Coffeehouse.

For those brave in heart, I’d recommend the Rattlesnake Museum. Denis really wanted to check this place out and to be honest I kept my eyes closed most of the time inside. But if learning about snakes or reptiles is your thing, this is the place for you.

If you’re a booklover like me, I would definitely recommend checking out Treasure House Books & Gifts. This locally-owned bookstore stocks books and autographed editions from authors only from New Mexico, which I thought was pretty cool. You’ll also love the Old Town area if you’re an art and architecture lover because there are stunning paintings and galleries on almost every corner. From photography to handmade crafts to Native American-inspired jewelry, there is something for everyone in Old Town to discover.

While there are many restaurants and cafes in Old Town and Albuquerque to choose from, I recommend going to Sawmill Market. This historic lumberyard building was transformed into a food hall that showcases 27 individual local merchants and the Yard, an outdoor dining and play area.

The reason I suggest coming to eat at the Market is because you can find a wide selection of food, making it perfect for a group or family that’s traveling. I picked up a Margarita pizza from Hawt Pizza Co that was delicious and topped it off with chocolate ice cream and Taiyaki (a Japanese cat-shaped cake filled with Nutella) from Neko Neko. Denis got a cheeseburger and some fries from Dr. Field Goods. All in all, we left full and happy, so I know you will too.
