Have you ever wanted to wear black in the summer? I know I sure have but I was always afraid that I’d get too hot so I tried to stay away from wearing dark colors in the warmer months . . . until now.
In today’s post I’m giving you some tips and tricks to wearing black in the summertime without turning into a puddle of sweat.

The color black is one of my faves to wear because it’s a very forgiving color. It’s slimming, looks good on practically everyone, and never goes out of style. And while I tend to gravitate toward darker colors in the fall and winter, I realized that you can wear black any time of the year – if you know how to do it.
Cotton is an excellent fabric to wear in the summer because it breathes. One of the easiest ways to wear black in the warmer months is to invest in a black cotton dress like this one from Old Navy. But if dresses really aren’t your thing, try a cotton top or blouse, which brings me to my next tip . . .
If you’re not sure that you can pull this trend off but you still want to try it out, dip your feet in the water by wearing a lightweight black, embroidered top with a colorful pair of bottoms. A lightweight top is a great addition to your wardrobe in the summer because it can go with so many different pants, shorts, or skirts.
One of the fastest outfits you can grab is a black t-shirt, some cargo pants or joggers or a ditsy skirt, and your favorite pair of sneakers or sandals. While there are all kinds of black t-shirts on the market, I highly recommend picking up one made of jersey. Jersey is really lightweight and won’t cling to you – no matter how hot you may get. Linen is also a really good fabric choice.
For the really brave at heart try wearing a black tank, some black shorts, and a black lace kimono or ruana. To really embrace this trend I suggest investing in a silky black tank or cami – not only will it keep you cool but it’s a fantastic transitional piece because you can layer it under jackets and sweaters in the fall. As for the lace kimono – it’s also a great transitional piece for fall.
No matter how you choose to wear black this summer, remember that you don’t have to shy away from wearing dark colors when the temps are rising if you know how to wear it.
