Returning to Waco, Texas

Returning to Waco, Texas

Two years ago Denis and I decided to take a trip to Waco, Texas to see the Magnolia Market Silos and everything that comes with it. At the time I thought to myself, Man, my mom would love this place, but she didn’t go with us. Fast forward to this year and we decided to bring her to Waco with us. So we hopped in the truck and headed to the Silos and boy was I right – Mom loved it.

Just in case you might be wondering what the Silos are – they’re a tourist attraction created by Chip and Joanna Gaines. They consist of a coffee shop, a furniture store, a bakery, food trucks, a wiffle ball field, and countless places to take pictures. Located at 601 Webster Ave, Waco, TX 76706, this tourist destination is not only aesthetically pleasing to look at, it’s extremely easy to visit. There are six boutique shops that you can pop in and out of – each offering unique gifts and goods – and ample places to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or just people-watch. Mom and I really liked the newest shop on the block – Ferny’s Retro Plant Shop – a shop that spoke to my Hufflepuff, plant-loving heart.

We also stopped by a fairly new food hall called Union Hall, located downtown at 720 Franklin Ave, Waco, TX 76701, for some lunch. Union Hall is a foodie’s dream. With 17 vendors to choose from, you’ll definitely find what you’re craving. I highly recommend stopping by Zuke’s Tea Bar (the peach mango black tea bliss is divine) and Whizzbang’s Hamburgers (their cheeseburgers are absolutely delicious). Parking is available across the street for $3 per hour currently.

Waco is quickly becoming a town for food lovers. Definitely check out Milk Bottle Cookies – they’re huge (a little pricey) but delicious – and Hecho En Waco, a downtown Mexican restaurant with a cool vibe and a yummy menu. And don’t forget to swing by the Magnolia Press, a coffee shop located at the Silos. They make a mean decaf iced vanilla latte.

But one of the best places we visited was Fabled Bookshop & Cafe, located on  215 S 4th St, Waco, TX 76701. This bookstore was one of the coolest I’ve ever been in. It’s not very big which I really liked because it gave it a cozy vibe. But don’t let the size of this place fool you – it had a really good selection of books.
