Today, we’re going to be talking about how easy it is to establish a capsule wardrobe for summer. A capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothing pieces that work well together, meaning you mix and match them to create multiple outfits. There are countless clothing pieces that can help you create a capsule wardrobe, but I think there are a specific few that won’t let you down, particularly in the summer. Linen Button Down Shirt
Every capsule wardrobe needs good basics and nothing is better than a linen button down shirt. A linen button down shirt is a capsule wardrobe essential because of its versatility. Not only can you wear the shirt buttoned up – you can throw it over a monochromatic look to add a pop of color. A linen button down also makes a great swimsuit cover-up or third piece over a sleeveless dress. Plus, they come in so many colors – from striped to solid.
Square-Neck Tanks
Do you like the look of a square-neck bodysuit but hate having to deal with its restriction? If you said yes, then you’re not alone. I’ve always liked the look of wearing a bodysuit but not the feel, which is why I invested in these ribbed square-neck tanks from Torrid. They’re cool, comfortable, long enough to tuck, and don’t ride up. They come in two colors – white and black – making them perfect to add to your basics collection.
Linen Pants
One of the best clothing staples you can add to your wardrobe are linen (or linen-blend) pants. Not only are they lightweight, they help to keep you cool when you don’t feel like wearing shorts. I highly recommend picking up pairs in the following neutral colors: white, black, linen beige, and olive green.
Trouser Shorts
You can never go wrong with a pair of trouser shorts. They’re comfortable and lightweight and have this amazing ability to dress up even the most casual of outfits. To me, summer is not about super tight, super short, super uncomfortable shorts. Summer is about loose-fitting essentials that you can pair with different tops.
White Sneakers
Every closet should have a good pair of comfortable sneakers, especially a pair of white sneakers. White sneakers go with all sorts of outfits and they have the unique ability of giving you a clean and casual look.
Neutral Sandals
Neutral sandals are perfect when it comes to a capsule wardrobe because they add to any outfit, instead of take away from your look. Jersey T-Shirts
Like cotton and linen, jersey is a natural fabric that’s ideal for summer because it’s smooth, soft, and lightweight. Investing in jersey t-shirts or tank tops are key to a capsule wardrobe because you can wear them alone or as a layering piece. I found some affordable ones on Amazon and I can honestly say that they have quickly become my new favorite t-shirts.
Linen or White Sundresses
Sundresses are most definitely a summer capsule wardrobe staple because you can put them on and just go. I like linen-blend or eyelet cotton sundresses because they really help to keep you cool. Plus, I think they give you a very old money/classic style look without trying hard.
Neutral Accessories
Since a capsule wardrobe usually consists of a lot of plain or neutral colors, one of the best ways you can take an outfit from basic to dressy is by adding some neutral accessories such as a pair of rattan earrings, gold or silver jewelry, a straw hat, a straw tote, or even a pair of tortoise-shell sunglasses. Don’t be afraid to layer on the jewelry either because accessories have a way of taking a simple outfit to the next level.
