Summer is a time for going to the beach or lake, lounging on the front porch while drinking an ice cold glass of lemonade or sweet tea, pulling your favorite pair of shorts out of storage, and – if you live in Louisiana like I do – sweating. Yes, you read that right – sweating.
Now I realize that summer means it’s going to get hot but in the state of Louisiana “heat” takes on a whole new meaning. With temps reaching the high 90s (but feeling like the high 100s) and humidity at its usual all-time peak, it can literally make you feel like your skin is melting off, which totally sucks if you’ve applied a full face of makeup.
I know it can be difficult to find a really foundation that will not only A) hold up in the heat but B) keep your oils at bay all day. And while I struggled for a long time to find a foundation that worked for me in the Southern summer months, I now have some holy grails that I want to share with you. And since I’ve faced many Louisiana summers you can trust me when I say – “These foundations work.”

Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation – $40.00
This foundation is awesome if you’re going to be in the sun for a while because it’s sweat-proof, water-resistant, and easy to blend. It has a slightly runny formula and a little goes a long way. And while it leaves you with a very natural finish, it still has the ability to conceal any blemishes or discoloration.
Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Moisturizing Foundation SPF 45 – $48.00
The Futurist Hydra Rescue Moisturizing Foundation is part makeup, part skincare. Like many of the foundations on this list, it’s lightweight and breathable, but what makes it stand out from the others is that it hydrates and soothes your skin while you wear it. It also protects your skin because it has SPF in it – making it a go-to for sunny summer days.
Makeup Forever Matte Velvet Skin Full Coverage Foundation – $40.00
This full-coverage foundation is perfect if you oily skin because it keeps your oils down and your skin looking radiant. To be honest, this foundation really surprised me. After a long day of running errands in the summer heat I came home to find that my face looked the same as it did when I first applied my foundation that morning.
Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Oil-Free Foundation – $65.00
Don’t let the name of this foundation fool you – even though the word “luminous” is in the name, this oil-free wonder gives you buildable, medium coverage that will stay that way all day. I usually save this foundation for special occasions like a wedding because it evens out the complexion really nicely and looks good for hours.
Juvia’s Place I Am Magic Foundation – $22.00
This foundation is truly – as it names states – magical. It has the amazing ability of camouflaging and concealing any blemish, pimple, or hyperpigmentation you may have. And while it is thicker than some of the other ones on this list, it’s still lightweight and blends effortlessly, leaving you with a velvety finish that can survive even the most sweltering of days.
L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear 24Hr Foundation – $15.99
The L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear foundation is probably one of the best foundations you can get from the drugstore. It’s lightweight, fluid, breathable, and doesn’t budge. If you’re in a hurry and have to stop by a pharmacy to pick up some makeup, definitely check this foundation out. I truly believe it works just as well or even better than some high-end foundations on the market.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Liquid Foundation – $38.00
The Fenty Pro Filt’r foundation is so good that it almost took the number spot on this list for me. It’s a soft matte formula that gives you blendable, medium-coverage that doesn’t clog your pores or fade away as the day goes on. If you struggle with your T-Zone, chin, and nose getting shiny by lunch time then this foundation is for you because it’s one of the best at controlling oil. Thank you, Rihanna!
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation – $46.00
And now for my number one, holy grail, best-of-the-best foundation for oily skin: The Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. If you have large pores, if your face looks like a shiny disco ball by the end of the day, and if you’re tired of having to touch-up with blotting papers, look no further. This is the foundation for you. I promise you it won’t move – not even in the strongest of heat. I wore it on my wedding day (see the post of me recreating my wedding day makeup here and I can honestly say that after wearing it almost all day my skin looked radiant and didn’t transfer on my wedding dress.
