Never by Jessa Hastings

This first book is for anyone who was ever a fan of Peter Pan or fairy tales. I can honestly say this book was unlike any other book I’ve ever read. It follows Wendy’s granddaughter, Daphne, as she waits for Peter Pan to come and whisk her away to Neverland. But year after year, she’s disappointed when Peter doesn’t come . . . that is, until her 17th birthday. Peter magically appears and takes her to Neverland where she meets jealous mermaids, the mischievous lost boys, and the very handsome son of pirate Captain Hook, Jamison. While this story may not be for all, Jessa Hastings’ writing style will capture your imagination and take your mind on an adventure unlike any other.

Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau

Paris. Romance. The ballet. This next book has it all and so much more. It follows an inspiring ballerina named Mia who wants nothing more than to follow in her family’s footsteps and go to Paris to dance in the Paris Ballet. When she gets the chance to train one summer in Paris, she takes it and that’s when her adventure begins. Things don’t go quite as Mia planned. She never counted on having a rival (Audrey) or falling in love for the first time (Louis) – but hey, Paris is called the City of Love for a reason, right?

Summer Fridays by Suzanne Rindell

I read this book last year and it quickly became one of my favorites. It’s just so sweet and relatable and perfect. Set in New York City in the summer of 1999, it follows Sawyer, a 20-something publishing assistant trying to make it in the big city with her fiance and college sweetheart. Things are going well for Sawyer . . . until she realizes that her fiance has been spending more and more time with his new coworker, Kendra. When Kendra’s boyfriend, Nick, asks Sawyer to meet up and compare notes, the two of them form a rocky relationship that slowly turns into friendship. As Sawyer and Nick spend their Fridays off traipsing around the city for clues of an affair, they start to learn new things not only about their partners, but themselves.

The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller

Chrysantha Stathos has finally won. Or at least she will win, once her elderly husband finally dies. When he does, she’ll be a wealthy duchess with more money, power, and freedom than she ever dreamed. But Chrysantha’s plans get derailed when a handsome but estranged grandson of her husband suddenly appears and tries to steal his grandfather’s fortune. Does she let his unexpected arrival stop her? No. No matter how good-looking, mysterious, or intriguing this grandson seems to be, he has to go. And a Stathos girl always gets what she wants. One of the things I love most about Tricia Levenseller’s writing is how unexpected it is. I mean, if you expect the story to go left, she’s gonna surprise you by going right, and just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, she throws you another curve ball. You have to pick up this book for that thrill alone.

Better than the Movies & Nothing Like the Movies by Lynn Painter

This next duology is a YA rom-com that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day and all year long. The first book follows Liz Buxbaum, a girl who’s been in love with Michael for as long as she can remember and she felt like a piece of her heart went with him when Michael moved away. But now, he’s back in town and Liz has a plan to get Michael to be date to prom. She’ll do anything – even befriend her extremely attractive and extremely annoying next door neighbor named Wes. As Wes and Liz scheme to get Michael to ask Liz out, Liz starts to realize that maybe she gave her heart to the wrong guy . . . and maybe real life can be better than the movies. Book two is the continuation of Liz and Wes’s story. If you like movie references and the sweetness of young love, these are the books for you.

Taylor Swift by the Book by Rachel Feder and Tiffany Tatreau

This next book is for all my fellow Swifties out there. It’s a compilation of all of the literary references of every song by Taylor Swift. From Shakespeare to Emily Dickinson to the Bronte sisters, this book does a deep dive into each of Tay Tay’s albums. Filled with colorful illustrations and interesting facts and tidbits, this is the ideal Galentine’s gift for your besties. You’ll spend hours pouring over every song lyric and you might just be surprised which literature some of Taylor’s inspiration came from.
